pan-European project was initiated by our institute in 2010 and runs under our
responsibility together with various cooperation partners since then. There has
been a first international symposium at the University of Vienna in October,
2011. The subject was
“Zwischen Kruzifix und Minarett. Religion im Fokus der Öffentlichkeit”. All speeches of this symposium have already been published.
symposium of this series took place in Mai, 2014 at the Protestant Academy of
Berlin. This time, the subject was mainly religion in schools. The third
symposium for 2020/21 is planned in Bucharest on the relationship between
religion and a nation regarding the orthodox church, followed by another later
in Ankara on the issue of secular societies in Islamic context.
addition, several public events take place as part of our project, like the
speech by the Vice president of the Bundestag, Dr. h.c. Wolfgang Thierse, on
“Religion ist keine Privatsache” in June 2013 in Vaduz.
In order to
celebrate the institute’s 10th anniversary (2004 – 2014), a ceremony
took place in June 2014 at the council chamber of Vaduz. On this occasion,
Prof. Dr. Frank Mathwig (Schweizer Evangelischcher Kirchenbund SEK, Institut
für Theologie und Ethik ITE, Bern – Swiss protestant churches SEK, institute
for Theologiy and Ethics ITE, Bern) gave a speech on “Die Zumutung der
Toleranz. Wie viel Religion
verträgt der liberale Staat?”.
